Matthew Poole – Swim Instructor and Head Triathlon Coach

185419_10152144893610425_1322229692_1Matthew Poole graduated from Brock University with a degree in Honours Physical and Health Education and an Bachelor of Education from University of Toronto. Matt has spent the last 13 years coaching high school athletes and in community in a wide variety of sports and obtained his NCCP certification in 2015.

Matt has been a member of the FMCT club for the past 4 years. He has competed in triathlon for the past 8 years in all distances from sprints to full Ironmans. His recent achievement was placing 62 overall at 2015 Lake Placid Ironman. Although he often completes his races with a solid bike and a run that keeps getting faster, his strength in swimming is often on par with that of top level athletes.

His approach to swimming is very simple: he believes in long smooth relaxed strokes to help move you through the water. The more streamline you can be the faster you go. Power and technique will help any swimmer glide through  the water with ease and have faster times. In teaching the swim classes, Matthew will provide feedback and suggestions so that members of all levels improve their efficiency in the water by becoming more streamlined and not wasting the energy needed in the bike and run segments, which are crucial to a successful race.
