Muskoka Training Weekend

The rooms are booked for our annual Muskoka training weekend. This time we have elected to head up for the long weekend (May 20th – 23rd) to give everyone an extra day to enjoy the experience.
Our current price range is from $150 to $200 per person for three nights. (The more people – the lower the price.) Send us an email to confirm your spot – because space is limited.

Key Club Races

We would like to try to organize a ‘key’ race or two for the upcoming season. The goal would be to try to have as many club members in attendance as possible. This makes for a VERY fun experience with lots of encouragement throughout the course. Do you have any suggestions for semi-local races that you would like to have as a key race for FMCT? Send us an email and let us know.

Tri Bike & Gear Swap

EnduroSport will be holding their semi-annual Tri Bike and Gear Swap on Saturday February 27th. If you are looking to make some changes to your collection – this might be the event for you. You can read more about it on their website: EnduroSport Tri Bike & Gear Swap.

Membership Information

2015 Year-End Draw

As a fun twist in 2015 we held a season long competition for our members. Each event attended earned our members a ballot towards the year-end prize – and our members earned a total of over 160 ballots!
After confirming the prize – we drew from the pile of ballots … and congratulations goes to Jay Chahal for winning a $100 gift certificate to Forks Bicycle Shop!

2016/2017 Membership

We will soon be making the updates to our website to enable online registration and purchase – but we are so excited about the options that we wanted to share the details right away.

TO Memberships: New this year, each individual will need to complete their own TO membership on the TO website. TO Membership Registration – just make sure you select the club option so you get our special club pricing.

FMCT Memberships: Our memberships run from April 1st to March 31st. We will have a special early-bird price of $25 for those signing up before April 1st, increasing to $30 after.

Open Water Swim: This summer we will have 20 swims at Professor’s Lake. Members-only Early bird pricing will be $160, and full pass prices will be $180 for Members and $200 for Non-Members. We will also have 10-pass and Drop-in options.

Simulation Events: Our first Sim-Day of 2016 will be June 5th and the second will be July 24th. We will have a special early-bird price if you sign up for both, as well as individual pricing.

After a popular and fun training weekend up in Muskoka last year (albeit with a few extra mosquitoes) – we will again be hosting a weekend of fun, training and camaraderie up at the Clyffe House. This time we have arranged to have the main houses for the May long weekend – which means and extra day and night!
Pricing will be dependent on the number of people we get signing up – currently we are looking at a range of $150 to $200 per person for three nights. (The more people, the lower the price.) Send us an email to confirm your spot – because space is limited.

Run4Hope

This locally-organized event is on its 11th year and will be held on Sunday April 24th and is looking for volunteers. If you are interested – please contact Brian Hastings – run4hope@outlook.com. If you are more interested in participating, check out their website for more information.

Club Memberships

Current Membership Option
Our off-season membership is currently available for individuals looking to join up now and take advantage of member pricing for our winter training opportunities. This membership is valid through to March 31st and you do not need to obtain TO (Triathlon Ontario) membership. Don’t forget – if you are obtaining an FMCT membership, you will need to fill out the registration form in addition to purchasing the membership through our shop. Full Season Membership
We are hoping to have the big plans finalized soon so we can post our 2016/2017 Full Season Membership and training options. Our Full Season Memberships are valid April 1st to March 31st (the following year) and you would need to obtain a TO membership to participate in certain workouts.

TO has raised their membership fees this year, but we are expecting our club membership fee to stay the same as last year (with early-bird pricing for those purchasing before April 1st). We will be offering our Open water swim program again this summer at a similar price-point to last year (with an early-bird pricing discount).

Stay tuned for details, we are planning on posting our rates and opening up our online store for the 2016/2017 membership by the end of February.


2016 TO Club Championships

The 2016 Club Championships will be contested at the Subaru Series’ Guelph Lake I race this year. (June 18/19)

Each year TO selects one race to act as the location for the annual Club Championships. The purpose of this challenge is to encourage some friendly competition between clubs (race to the finish anyone?). You can read more about what these championships are all about on the TO website.

100-Day Run Challenge

Don’t forget to log your runs – we have over 400km of running logged so far this month. Our challenge will run through to April 9th – and the goal is to complete (safely) your maximum number of runs in this timeframe. We have identified a variety of achievement goals – what are you working towards?

The goals are defined by the number of runs you complete within the 100 day timeframe: Gold = 86 Runs, Silver = 65 Runs, Bronze = 43 Runs, and Participation = 22 Runs. Most of our participants are on track to achieve at least the Bronze level. Congratulations to all who are participating!

100-Day Run Challenge

Thank you to everyone who has signed up – it is exciting to see what everyone is up to, and encouraging to know that I am not the only one out there slogging through the miles.
For those who are looking for a fun way to find motivation for their runs this winter – here is a quick reminder of the rules:
– Run must be at least 30 minutes long to be eligible to be counted.
– Runs must be on the road or a treadmill (pool running & ellipticals do not count for this challenge).
– If you run twice in one day, as long as one of the runs is at least 30 minutes, you can add the time and distance of the two runs together in the log.

If you have any questions, or are looking to sign up, just send us an email.

Muskoka Training Weekend

You might find it hard to think about summer training during the cold and snowy weather – but we are moving ahead with our planning for the summer season already, and you should too!

We are tentatively looking at the May long weekend (20th – 23rd) to give everyone an extra day of enjoyment. If you are interested in joining us, please let us know.

Winterlude Triathlon

Do you love running and skiing? If so – you may be interested to learn about the event being held on January 30th in Ottawa.This fun and challenging event is just one of the activities that take place over the span of 2 full weeks in the annual celebration of winter. Muskoka Full Ironman

There were a few FMCT members who did the double challenge last year and completed both the half and full IM up on the Muskoka course. Unfortunately it looks like the participation was not enough to support future years of holding the full IM in Muskoka. You can read the news report on the Triathlon Magazine website.

To minimize the ‘return to working out’ pain that can sometimes happen after a break, we suggest finding your own moments to complete some workouts. There are a number of free spinning workouts available online, stay safe and watch out for puddles (or ice/slush/snow) if you are running outside, and our coach has provided a few swim workouts to those signed up for the pool swim sessions (Mayfield pool has a number of fitness swims available between now and the new year).

Upcoming Events

Family Swim
We are hoping to hold an open fitness/family swim on Tuesday December 29th from 6-7pm. We are just waiting on confirmation of availability from the Town of Caledon.
This would be a free event for all FMCT members, friends and family. We would like to use this as an opportunity to collect non-perishable food items for a club donation to the local food bank. Standard pool admission guidelines must be followed (they can be found at the bottom of this document: Caledon Swim). Please stay tuned for confirmation of whether or not we will be able to hold this event.

100-Day Run Challenge
We are planning on holding this challenge again in 2016 – starting on January 1st. We will share the rules and details next week – now is your chance to make sure your running shoes are ready!

Egg Nog Jog – The 2015 Edition

It sure did not feel like the middle of December – and our club members were out in full force to tackle the deceptively difficult Egg Nog Jog. (With the Egg Nog consumption coming after the run.)

Local Events

Personal Best McMaster Indoor Tri – December 12th
If you love triathlons and are sad that the Canadian weather prevents you from ‘getting your race on’ for many months of the year – there is an option for you. Personal Best is hosting an Indoor Triathlon this Saturday December 12th. They might be close to capacity – so if you are interested, let them know ASAP. More information can be found on the Personal Best website.

Egg Nog Jog – December 13th
The Annual Egg Nog Jog will be taking place this Sunday December 13th. If you aren’t signed up already – then you have waited way too long, they sold out a month ago. But, you can still come out and cheer on your club-mates and all the people braving the route and the December weather. You can find more information about this popular event on the Egg Nog Jog website. (And for those who like to plan WAY ahead – next year’s race date is Sunday December 11th.)
