Weekly email of Feb 18, 2008
Hi Everyone,
Lots of snow, lots of wind, throw in a little freezing rain and ice and it looks like it’s February. I hope you are all having a good time training both in and outdoors. If you need a little warming up, you can always stake a trip to Balmoral pool in Bramalea the water is .. near tropical!!
We had a good group out for this weeks’ long run. There was about 15 of us running various distances up to and including 29km. Feel free to come and join us. We all start and finish in the same spot as the routes are such that you can alter the course and run whatever distance you like. It is a run at your pace format. Everyone starts out together and you just kinda fall into place, challenge yourself with a faster group , run with a group you can talk with, or just turn on your iPod and get into your own pace. This week we will be heading back to Inglewood. It really is a nice place to do a run. I will send out some more details later in the week, but plan on 9:00am in Inglewood.
We had an FMCT committee meeting on Friday night and I have a few items that I would like to tell you and or remind you about. It is Sunday night and I am trying to watch Terminator 2 while I write this so please bare with me on the point form.
1. We need club members to come out and volunteer for this years 4th annual Run4Hope. We are working hard this event be the best one yet. We have some good sponsors lined up with TD Canada Trust, Sports Medicine Specialists and Targus to name a few. Also Tim Hortons, Endless Endurance, I could go on, but I am going by memory and well, that’s all I can remember right now. But mark your calendars for Sunday April 13th and come out wearing your FMCT gear and help out. We will also be taking a team picture that day and an after race group ride to Belfountain for coffee and maybe a cookie.
2. Speaking of FMCT gear, the supplier will start to get busy soon so if we want to have new uniforms back before the Milton race we need to start preparing to send in the next order. The order date will be March 7th (Friday) so please get your orders into Brian Hastings.. oh no.. Gavin Barrett is going to take over the uniform detail, I wonder if he knows that yet. Pretty sure he does. Anyway, if you go to the FMCT website (which has been totally redone so check it out) there will be an email address for uniforms you can make your order there. Money must be submitted prior to order going in. A detailed e-mail will follow.
3. We are once again doing the “Adopt a Road” program and we will be communicating the dates for the road clean up as soon as they are set. Be nice to see some new faces out for the clean up days. The more that attend the quicker and easier the process. For those who don’t know we have adopted a piece of Mississauga road from King to Olde Base Line.
4. Oh, back to Run4Hope, we could use some more small promotional items for the race kits. So if you could ask your employer for some pens or something that would be cool.
5. It is time to renew your FMCT and OAT Membership for 2008. The cost is $50 if you renew before March 31 after that it is $55. We know this is more then last year ($45) and this increase reflects the increase implemented by OAT not us. SO go to the website download your forms and mail them in with your check. Well, complete them first then mail them in.
6. We are up to 24 confirmed for the June Muskoka weekend and are getting to the point where we need to have some finalized numbers. So please let me know if you are interested as there are a few spots left.
7. Chilly Half, Around the Bay, Peterborough Half, Grimsby Half are all just around the corner.
I think that is about it for now anyway. I do have one more piece if information to share with you.. but I have to confirm a couple of this first. SO I guess I don’t have one more piece of information to share with you. Maybe tomorrow!.. haha
Have Fun and be safe. See you soon.
Jim
