Giving Thanks
Jan 2, 2011
When you are an endurance athlete you balance careers, families, friends with an internal drive that pushes you outside of these perimeters and commitments to pursue your sport. As often as we share this experience with others it is also a solitary time.
Out the door we are presented with physical and environmental challenges, with motion. But also time to explore our thoughts, enjoy a sense of calm that comes when your thoughts and breath are linked and free. Often we take this time and find ourselves giving thanks; thankful for these moments to ourselves, for our supportive families, able bodies, for the privilege of a bike or a warm coat to run in. These thoughts, in turn, give way to perspective, a realization that in taking this time for ourselves we are cultivating energy and warmth and compassion that can be shared. In allowing yourself time for yourself you often generate more for others.
FMCT is a triathlon community which gives back in abundance. Throughout the 2010 year members gave continuously to a variety of charities; Sick Kids, Prader-Willi syndrome, Adopt a Road and Sky's the Limit, to name a few.
The spirit of sharing resources and improving our community was evident at our Year End Gala. Club
members; Ian Jay, Colin Chung made personal donations and the event was also supported by donations from Targus, and Feet in Motion. Generous bidding by club members created a donation of $657 for the Honeycomb Church Salvation Army Family Life Resource Centre, 535 Main Street North, Brampton. This money will go directly to resources, such as sporting equipment, to be used by young adults in a newly constructed General Purpose room at the shelter. FMCT will receive an invitation to the opening of this facility.
One in every three children in Peel lives in need. Our continuous effort to reach these families makes a true difference in the Brampton community.
Thank you to all club members, with special thanks to Ian Jay for organizing.
May the year ahead bring many magical journeys and inspire much giving.
