Club Championships

May 4, 2010

Once again this year, the Annual OAT Club Championships are being held at Guelph Lake. We participated as a club in this challenge last year and the participation by club members was impressive. So much so that we came second place in the participation competition (or was it third place). Well we'd like to try that again.

Here's how it works: 1. Sign up for an Guelph Lake event. A list of events to choose from is listed below:

Try-A-Triathlon - Swim 375m, Bike 10km, Run 2.5km Sprint Triathlon - Swim 750m, Bike 20km, Run 5km Sprint Duathlon - Run 2km, Bike 20km, Run 5km Sprint Tri Relay - Swim 750m, Bike 20km, Run 5km Olympic Triathlon - Swim 1.5km, Bike 42km, Run 10km Olympic Tri Relay - Swim 1.5km, Bike 42km, Run 10km Olympic Duathlon - Run 2km, Bike 42km, Run 10km Olympic Swim/Bike - Swim 1.5km, Bike 42km

2. Show up for the event. 3. Let us know you showed up for the event. 4. We submit a list to OAT of all those club members that participated in the championship challenge. 5. OAT determines what percentage of our club membership participated. 6. We end up with the highest percentage of club participation of any club in Ontario and win first place.

This year there will also be bonus points for clubs that provide up to two volunteers for any one of the weekend's events. So you can participate even if you are injured or otherwise don't feel like racing. Let me know if you're interested in volunteering.

In addition to the above challenge, I would like to announce a challenge within the challenge. I am putting together an all-star relay team for the Olympic relay comprised of: Angela Nardella: swim (assuming she actually gets in the water between now and then) Jon Westwood: bike (he doesn't know it yet. Well, I guess he does now) Richard Westwood: run

The challenge is to put together your own relay team and come and kick our butts. If anyone is interested in participating in a relay but don't have a team, let me know. I may be able to organize some relay teams if there is enough interest.

I understand that the Guelph Lake events are filling up fast so don't hesitate on pulling the trigger on this one. Join in, it's going to be fun! Let me know if you intend to participate and in which event and I'll keep a tally.
