FMCT Weekly Update - Muskoka Training Weekend

Jun 3, 2009

Hi Everyone,

This past weekend was the Muskoka training weekend in Huntsville. 25 club members spent 2-3 days of solid training up there. Most of us cycled and ran along the scenic Muskoka 70.3 bike course. There were also 5 club members who donned their wetsuits and braved the cold waters of Peninsula Lake for a brief swim. The weather was a bit cool on Saturday and we were pelted with hail at times on Sunday morning. Thanks once again to Jim Dalzell for making the cottage arrangements and setting the up weekend. Thanks also to Bill Vieira for setting up a movie for us on Saturday evening and enlightening us to Jessica Alba's "acting skills" in Into the Blue...she is quite flexible! :) Another fun training weekend.

Milton
Club members were also competing at the Milton races on Sunday. Results are below. Please let me know if I've missed anyone. Some notable times were Larry Bradley who was 3rd in his age group and 4th overall in the Du. Hans Porten was 2nd in his age group and Boleslaw Szramek was 3rd in his age group in the Tri. Nice work guys!

Adopt-A-Road
A reminder that the Adopt-A-Road cleanup was moved to this Thursday June 4th. We'll be meeting at Creditview Public School at the corner of Mississauga Rd. and King Rd. at 6:30pm. Please email Terri Ritter at TheTerririzer@gmail.com to confirm you can make it on Thursday.

Club Championships
The Club Championships are at Guelph Lake on June 20th & 21st. We are encouraging all club members to participate in this event. OAT gives out prizes to the top 3 multisport clubs based on member participation. So far we have 19 club members signed up out of 88 active members. I just signed up myself today. The participation award is based on the percentage of club members participating so we'd like to see the percentage as high as possible. All we have to do is show up and race! The following is taken from the Trisport Canada website:

"Participation Award
All events held as part of the Guelph Lake Triathlon Weekend listed below
· Merrell Try-A-Tri
· Sprint Triathlon
· Sprint Duathlon
· Olympic Triathlon
· Olympic Duathlon)

Participation Scoring will be based on the percentage of eligible members of each club participating (i.e. 60 members of a possible 100 members = 60% or 60 points for participation). The highest participation point total wins. All events at the race (e.g. Olympic, Sprint & Try-A-Tri) will count towards the participation point total.
Most Participants - All events:
· 1st place - 00 plaque
· 2nd place - 0
· 3rd place - 0"

Spin the Lakes
On Sunday May 24th club member Frank Howlett participated in the Spin the Lakes Cycle Tour in Huntsville. Frank represented us up there and rode 55k in 2:22. We should try to get more club members up there next year. There are also 110k and 170k rides which go along most of the Muskoka 70.3 bike route. Have a good week,

Brian
