Weekly Email

Feb 25, 2008

Good Day Ladies and Gentlemen

I hope this email finds you well and in good spirits!

I am sorry that I am a little late with my weekly update, however last night was Oscar night and well frankly I got caught up in all the hoopla! I also realized that I have not seen any of the movies that were up for best picture, I didn't really like any of the songs that we up for best song, I didn't recognize half of the names of the actors and actresses that were up for an award, so you must be asking yourself why.. why Jim did you sit there and watch it.. what was you motivation please share it with us.. was it because you were trying to get ideas for movies that you and Nat could go see.. nahh.. that ain't it.. was it because the show is known for having never ending laughs and guffaws.. nope.. we know that ain't it.. well.. then.. what the dealio.. mostly because I left the converter on the other side on the room and it was too far away to go and get.. that and the low cut dresses on the red carpet.. I figured maybe one of the drug riddled stars would show up and fall down half way down the carpet.. that would have been funny.. yeah yeah I know.. laughing at someone else's misfortune is not supposed to be funny.. but it is sometimes.. and that would have been one of them..

Ok.. so that was a bit of useless babble..

The winter running race season is upon us. The Peterborough and Grimsby half marathons were yesterday with FMCT representation at both. The Chilly half is in Burlington this weekend coming and the Around the Bay race is SOLD OUT. I would list the names, but I am afraid I may miss some people and offend them.. so that's why I didn't in case anyone is wondering… I know Brent Passmore ran in Peterborough and Laura Sanderson ran in Grimsby.. but that is all I know for sure.. I guess I could check the websites.. suppose.. but I am at work and the system is slow for that stuff.. so I better not.. if someone else wants to do it and send me the results.. I can get them sent out.. I won't actually send them out.. but I will send them to someone else who will send them out.. so I am kinda a re-sender.. like a re-gifter but not really.. I am giving myself a headache.. it may be my new glasses.. they are progressive bi-focals.. its an age thing.. you will all get there some day.. anyway.. as I move my head around or divert my eyes up or down things go in and out of focus.. not sure why they call them progressive.. they should call them annoying bi-focals.. that is a little more accurate.. sorry.. I didn't mean to take away from the race result section of the email.. that is an important piece, Brent, Laura and those I missed, I do apologize.

We are please to announce that Robert McCue will be assuming the position of FMCT Coach. He will be representing FMCT at the OAT Community Stream coaching seminar in March. By having our “own coach” if you will, we will be able to keep our “Club” status without going outside of the club ranks to do so. This was a huge issue for the club and something we had to deal with on an ongoing basis and an issue that was becoming more difficult to deal with as the OAT rules tightened. Rob, we appreciate you taking on this position and volunteering your time. To get someone at your level of experience to take on this role is a huge bonus for the group.

For those who don't know or haven't met Rob I will tell you a bit about him. Rob's many years of training and racing experience combined with his strong desire to move into a coaching environment made him a logical and unanimous choice for the role.

He has represented Canada at the world Duathlon Championships in Newfoundland last year, his basement wall is covered in plaques from podium finishes at many races as well as overall series winners for the Subaru series of races. He has lead bike workouts sessions in the summer and winter trainer sessions and is currently leading the 10k running clinic at the Running Room in Brampton. We will be setting up an email for him on the FMCT website where you will be able to ask him any coaching related questions you may have. His role is not to build an individual training plan for each person but to provide tips and guidance on the types of things we should be doing in order to have a successful, injury free season. We will also build a coaches' corner on the website where Rob can post suggested workouts etc.

This weeks run on saturday will be out of the Running Room at 9:00am. We're still swimming at McMurchy pool at 8:30 if anyone wants to join us. Also Sunday mornings at 7:30 at Balmoral pool is a good place to find some swimming Falcons.. never thought I would say that in a sentence..

The Thursday coached swim is a go this week and we have approached Hans Porten (swim coach) and asked him to extend into May which he has agreed so when we confirm with the pool we will advise…

Get your FMCT and OAT membership applications and forms in..
Get you uniform orders in.. March 7th cut off date… Gavin Barrett is helping us out with the ordering this time round and he won't be tolerate at late ordering.. nothing worse then an intolerant Barney Barrett..

The 100 day run challenge is still on the go.. I think we are at day..50.. somewhere around there.. pretty much a blur.. need new shoes tho..haha…

See you guys soon
Jim
